昔からの仲間の企画で活動再開の日を迎えられるのをとてもうれしく思います。この機会を作ってくれて、本当にありがとう！
そして、この日をもってCAUCUSは新メンバーにイチカワユウタ(Float down the Liffey/alicetales)を迎え、4人編成で活動を再開します。
ん？4人？新メンバー？
という、さらーっと報告するにはコーカスにとってかなり重大な発表なので、ちょっと、いや、かなり長くなりますが、加藤ちゃんとひろこさんと、新メンバーのイチカワくんについて。

今回のアルバムレコーディングを区切りに、加藤ちゃんとひろこさんが脱退して、このライヴをもってイチカワくんがコーカスに入ります。
加藤についてはレコーディングのDay 9で書いたとおり、「今、音楽ではなく、別の活動をやっていきたいという心境にあり、結果として生活の中でバンドをやる時間を取ることができなくなってしまった」というのがそれ以上でもそれ以下でもなく、一番的確な表現なのかな、と思っています。
ひろこさんの脱退も、現実的に時間が取れなくなった点がやはり大きくて、家庭と音楽活動とのバランスなどを色々工夫してみても、今のところCAUCUSを継続してやっていくのは難しいと結論にたどり着いた、というところです。
ひろこさんはこれからもGirl Presidentで音楽活動はしていくので、ぜひ今後も彼女の活躍を応援して行ってください！ガルプレは僕も録音など手伝っていたりもしてます。
バンドとしては、今回のアルバム制作のセッションを始めるにあたって、ひろこさんの参加が難しいことはわかった状態で4人で始まりました。2014年夏に放送されたMTV81の取材があった日（2014/7/19）が実はその最初のセッションで、そのため4人での出演だった背景があったりします。結局その後は楽曲制作の間、加藤とはスケジュール合わずスタジオに入れないことがほとんどで、3人で曲作りをしてはデモの録音をして、ギターを後乗せで足していくような形で10曲を完成させました。1曲はひろこさんが昔作ったいいメロディの曲があったんで、それを僕がスタジオで歌いながら角本と遠藤さんとで作るような感じでした。
それでもなんとか、かとちゃんに生活スタイルを変えてでもバンドを続けられないかなど、色々投げかけていましたが、最終的にコーカスのバンド活動よりも別のことを優先したいと言う彼の結論を受け入れました。
バンドをやるのって結構時間を取られるものなんです。みんなで時間を合わせてリハに入って、家に持ち帰ってまたフレーズや構成など色々考えて、練習したりレコーディングしたりライヴやったり。誰に頼まれたわけでもなく、でも外に向かって発信している責任を持って、いい音楽作品を作ろうと活動しているわけで。そんな中、歳を重ねるにつれてやることも増えていって、なかなか思うように時間が取れなくなってきたりします。
僕たちはフルタイムのミュージシャンではありません。限られた時間の中で、それぞれ工夫しながら音楽活動しています。逆に言えば、だからこそ目指したい音楽性を追い求めて、インディペンデントな活動ができているとも言えるかもしれません。
しかしながら、時間を主体的にどう使いたいか、現実的にはどう使えるのか、と言った問題は出てくるわけで、こればかりは受け入れるしかありません。
今回レコーディングを始める時点で、Day 1のブログにも書いたとおり、「メンバーみんな色々と生活も変わっていて、今作以降についてライヴはメンバー5人で演奏するのはほぼほぼ不可能」な状態でした。それでも最後に5人が参加する形でアルバムを作ろうと考えたのは、現在のバンドの状況への、僕なりの最後の抵抗でした。せっかくなんだから5人で、素晴らしいメンバーであり、よき友人であるみんなで、参加するアルバムを録って、いい作品を完成させてから、活動できるメンバーを揃えて、再びライヴ活動に向けた新たなスタートを切ろうと。
そして、レコーディングを終えて、一区切りがついた最終日。打ち上げでみんなで話をして、かねてからずっとコーカスを観てくれていたイチカワくんにギターやってみないかとオファーしました。
イッチーはあり得ないくらいコーカスのことを愛してくれていて（身内となった今でも、なんとなくこの表現が一番的確な気がする・・・）CDの購入特典とか限定ライヴ盤とか全部持っていて、たぶん東京のライヴはここ数年ほとんど全部来てるんじゃないかという、、、若干引くくらい（失礼）のコーカス愛を持っている人です。そして彼のやっているFloat down the Liffeyやalicetalesでのギタープレイも、加藤とはまた違う意味でハマりそう、というビビビっと（古い）来たところもあって、スタジオ入って即メンバー入りをオファー、快くOKしてもらいました。複数バンドやってて忙しい中、ほんとありがとう。これからはよろしくね。
現在は新旧楽曲をまぜこぜにライヴのためのリハを続けています。バンドっぽくバシっとまとまるにはまだまだかかるかも知れませんが、7月の活動再開に向けてちゃくちゃくと準備しているので今後とも、何卒よろしくお願いいたします。

Finally, CAUCUS will be doing live gigs again starting from July 16th show organized by our good shoegaze friend My Dead Girlfriend. We will also be organizing a show for Try the Pie from the United States. Try the Pie will be doing a solo set.

We will be having a new guitarist joining in: Yuta Ichikawa (Float down the Liffey/alicetales) from this day, as 4 piece band.
A new member? 4 piece band?
Yes, Tatsuro and Hiroko is leaving the band, and we will start the band again with Yuta. There is a bit of a long story here.
For Tatsuro, as mentioned in recording log of Day 9, “He now have something other than music that he would like to do, and it is difficult for him to make time for doing music” is what describes the explains his leave most clearly.
Hiroko was also tough on balancing time between musical activities for family reasons. She will be continuing on her project of Girl President, so please follow her project as well. I am also helping them out in recording stuffs etc.
We started out making new songs in 2014, when we already knew that it would be difficult to do CAUCUS with Hiroko on regular basis. The first day of the session was actually the day MTV81 had shot us (July 19, 2014), and that is why there was just 4 of us there. Eventually Tatsuro couldn’t make it to our studio session most of the time and we made songs with just 3 of us, Taisuke, BJ and me. Recorded them with us 3 and had Tatsuro overdub some guitar afterwards.
Tatsuro and I were talking if he can come back to the band again or not, but it wasn’t just possible this time.
“While we are going to do this recording session with all 5 of our members, we don’t seem to make it with all 5 of us together on stage after we record them” is what I mentioned in Day 1, but I decided to start this session with this band member because I wanted to go against the situation we were in. I wanted to make a great album with these great members that I am proud of, who are good friends of mine.
We finished the tracking on March 11th, and had contacted Yuta to be a new member on that day. A new step forward for the band to move on.
Yuta has been around with us for about several years, and has a lot of LOVE to our band… He has all the CDs, limited edition live recordings, and probably came to all the shows in Tokyo. We talked about it a few days ago, and he maybe have more tracks of CAUCUS than us 3! I’ve seen him play in bands Float down the Liffey and alicetales, and had the feeling that he will do great with us as well.
We are currently doing rehearse with the mix of new and old songs. We hope we fit together as a band by the July’s live and to do more touring as well.
